The Summit Township assessing department through efficient and effective procedures seeks to insure that all property, taxable and exempt, is inventoried on an annual basis. We attempt educating owners of property on the process and procedures employed to arrive at the assessed and taxable valuations on property subject to taxation. Equitable and supportable valuations are our primary goals. Guidelines established by the Property Tax Division, Michigan Department of Treasury, tax law and court cases assist us in our function.
The assessing department is responsible for inventory of all the property located in Summit Township and valuation of taxable property. Related responsibilities include physical inspections of properties, verifying information with owner, digital photographing of structures, sketch drawings and computer entry of data. Homestead affidavits, homestead rescissions and property transfer affidavits are processed through the assessing department with a copy being filed in the properties file. Lot splits request land divisions request and parcel combination request are also handled though the assessing department.
